Current Projects and Research

Project Manager for the National Gulf Veterans and Families Association (NGVFA) Big Lottery funded Development Project

The Big Lottery development project started on 1st June 2006 with £315,000 granted over 3 years, this was a direct result of a Big Lottery funded feasibility study carried out by me on behalf of the NGVFA during 2004 and 2005.

The project will improve support for veterans from both Gulf conflicts (1990-1991 and 2003 – present) and their families by developing the charity’s current services and adding additional new services. For more details of the project please visit the NGVFA website at www.ngvfa.org.uk

Completed Projects

Needs Analysis for the Carers Support Service (CSS) - completed August 2005

A joint initiative between Hull Churches Home from Hospital Service, Macmillan Cancer Relief and Eastern and West Hull NHS Primary Care Trust.

The service is directed at supporting the informal carers of those with palliative care needs providing short-term practical, emotional, psychological or spiritual support but it is also the intention of the service in the pursuance of this to provide care and support as appropriate to the patient or person cared for. One of the aims of the service is to support the family or patient’s support ‘team’ and the patient as a whole to continue in their care giving and relationships.

The needs analysis was conducted to assure the schemes robust rationale ensuring it addressed real identified needs, enabled measurement of performance, facilitated best use of resources, reduced risk, provided public accountability and tackled issues regarding sustainability and service development.

Cancer Services Users Information Project (CSUIP) - completed August 2005

Commissioned by the Humber and Yorkshire Coast Cancer Network (HYCCN) in May 2004. HYCCN wished to develop ‘Network Wide Patient Information’ for cancer to help to improve equity of care and the quality of the cancer patients’ and carers’ experience.

The project intended to help ensure that all written cancer information developed and used across the network was of a consistently high standard. It was suggested that this could be achieved by ensuring an appropriate, practicable and consistent system of assuring the quality of written cancer information was identified and adopted across the network to underpin all future efforts to provide patient information. In addition the project aimed to facilitate network wide communication regarding patient information, to ensure consistency in information as well as helping to make the most effective use of resources i.e. time, skills and knowledge.
